In what looks like further trouble for the Sasikala camp, the crime branch of the Delhi police has filed an FIR against AIADMK Deputy General Secy TTV Dhinakaran for attempting to bribe officials of the Election Commission of India in order to get the ‘two-leaves’ symbol allotted to his camp.

Delhi police PRO Madhur Verma has confirmed to The News Minute that an FIR has been filed against Dhinakaran and one Sukesh Chandrasekar has been arrested by the Delhi police for attempting to influence the ECI.

The FIR has been filed against TTV and Sukesh under various sections of the IPC including 120B (Criminal conspiracy), 170 (impersonating a public servant) and under Section 8 of The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

The Delhi police have said they will be issuing summons to Dhinakaran for questioning soon.

Sources say that Sukesh had led TTV Dhinakaran to believe that the ECI could be influenced over the two-leaves decision by bribing officials to the tune of Rs. 50-60 crore. Sukesh was said to be in possession of Rs. 1.30 crore at the time of his arrest from Hyatt hotel in Delhi on Sunday night. The Delhi police believe that Dhinakaran could have been in direct touch with Sukesh.

An FIR has been filed under Section 8 of the Prevention of the Corruption Act - which is the crime of taking gratification, in order, by corrupt or illegal means, to influence public servant - and section 120 B of the IPC for criminal conspiracy, by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police.

The Delhi police is said to have formed a special team to investigate this crime.

The two camps in the AIADMK, led by former CM O Panneerselvam on one side and Sasikala on the other, have been embattled over the ownership of the ‘two-leaves’ symbol of the AIADMK, with each side claiming it to be their own.

Interestingly, one Sukesh Chandrasekar was earlier in the news for being wanted by the Chennai police and was later arrested in 2013. He was alleged to have siphoned off Rs 5 lakh from two people in the city in 2010. According to The Hindu, Sukesh, a native of Bengaluru, “began a life of crime as a teenager by posing as a relative of politicians and cheated innocents to the tune of crores by promising government contracts and property. Cars and racing were a passion and he purchased quite a few luxury sedans with the money.” He was also the boyfriend of actor Leena Maria Paul.

Delhi police PRO Madhur Verma said, "We're collecting more details about him, but it seems to be the same Sukesh Chandrasekar who was arrested by the Chennai police a few years ago."

TTV Dhinakaran meanwhile told the media in Chennai that he does not know who Sukesh Chandrasekar is.
