Sanal Kumar case: After DySP Harikumar’s death, 2nd accused Binu surrenders

Binu allegedly helped Harikumar and went into hiding with him after the death of Sanal.

Following the death of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), B Harikumar, who was the main accused in the murder case of 32-year-old Sanal Kumar, K Binu, a friend of Harikumar who is alleged to have helped him escape from the spot of the accident, surrendered before the Crime Branch (CB) on Tuesday night. IG Sreejith, who has been charged with investigating the case, confirmed Binu's surrender to TNM.

Binu also allegedly went into hiding along with DySP Harikumar following the death of Sanal Kumar, a native of Kodungavilla in Neyyattinkara, who died after he was mowed down by an approaching vehicle during an altercation with the DySP. Witnesses to the incident say that Harikumar had pushed him on to the road, following which the vehicle ran him over.

Surrendering along with Binu was Ramesh, who is reportedly the driver of Satish, the owner the lodge in Thirparappu in Tamil Nadu. Ramesh is said to be the person who drove Harikumar and Binu around while they were in hiding.

According to a report in Onmanorama, CB sources were not willing to reveal much about Binu’s surrender. However, Binu, who is alleged to have been with Harikumar while he was in hiding, is expected to know further details about the people who tried to protect the DySP, especially persons in power within the police.

The report states that Binu may also know when Harikumar went to his house in Kallambalam, where he was found dead on Tuesday morning, eight days after the death of Sanal Kumar.

Under the condition of anonymity, Manorama reported a CB official as saying Binu might know why Harikumar committed suicide, which is what police sources have been suspecting ever since his death.

It was from Binu’s house in Kodungavilla that Harikumar came out on the night of November 5 to find Sanal Kumar’s car parked in front of his car. Following this, an argument started between Harikumar and Sanal on moving their cars. During this argument, the altercation took a deadly turn and Sanal Kumar was pushed on to the road by the DySP. Unfortunately, a car was approaching at that moment and Sanal was struck.
