Samsung has come up with a new clamshell smartphone with some high-end specs and priced above Rs 1 lakh. The phone, the Samsung W2019, has two identical 4.2-inch display screens. These are super AMOLED displays with their screen resolution reading 1920x1080pixels.
The latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845soC will be the processor on this clamshell phone and its battery 3070mAh. The phone has 6GB RAM and 128Gb of internal storage. There may be a 256GB variant as well. The provision for a microSD card to expand the storage is also available. The 3.5mm audio jack is missing. The Android Oreo, version 8.1 wil be the operating system on this clamshell model from Samsung.
There is a rectangular hinge that connects the two displays and there is a physical keyboard. For imaging, there is a dual camera setup in the rear and an 8MP shooter for selfies in the front. The new Samsung W2019 is fairly thick with the overall dimensions of the device reading 132.9mmx63.4mmx17.3mm and there will be choice of 2 colours, Rose Gold and Platinum.
It’s a dual SIM phone with connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/A-GPS and NFC support, and for charging, a type-C USB port is available. The same can be used for audio support and for data transfer.
The W2019 comes with Bixby support, and like most other premium smartphones, it does not feature a 3.5mm headphone jack.
It is understood that this phone is currently being released as an exclusive device for China Unicom and therefore whether it may be released in other markets, and when will all be known only later. As mentioned, the phone has been priced at CNY10,000 which converts to around Rs 1,05,000 in the Indian currency. China Unicom might offer the device in a bundled form to its customers. What kind of an impact this phone has in the market will be keenly observed by all.
