Residents in Neredmet, Sainikpuri, Safilguda and Makajgiri will have to put up with the lack of roads in the area, for at least another few months.

The Hindu reported that the Rs 338-crore World Bank assisted project had a 24-month timeline, which will elapse this month.

“We hope to finish the pipeline works by December. Roads can be restored by February,” a senior HMWSSB official told the newspaper.

Last week, three people, including a couple, suffered serious injuries after a road in Safilguda caved in on Saturday morning.

The accident happened due to construction work for the project, when the road was dug up and reportedly filled up with lose gravel.

For months, local residents have been complaining about the state of the roads. The entire stretch from Neredmet to the Safilguda lake park is almost life-threatening, while the road adjacent to Safilguda Lake Park, once dubbed Hyderabad's 'Mini Tank Bund', is downright pathetic.

The poor state of the roads is not limited to these areas, as residents in various parts of the city continue to struggle.

On Sunday, the roads claimed another life, making it the fourth person to die in three months.

A 33-year-old private employee fell from his bike after he lost control while attempting to avoid a damaged stretch on the road near Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL).
