Reliance Jio GigaFiber is set to offer a broadband-landline-TV combo service at a monthly cost of Rs 600 along with additional facilities besides the option of connecting at least 40 devices to its smart home network for up to Rs 1000, according to a report in Livemint

Currently in the test phase, Reliance Jio is piloting GigaFiber in Delhi and Mumbai by providing 100 GB of data at 100 mbps for free, while collecting Rs 4500 as a one-time deposit for a router. Telephone and TV services will be added in the next three months when the service will be launched commercially, and all three services are expected to remain free for about a year, the report says.

Unlimited calling facility will be present on the landline while the television channels will be delivered over the internet (Internet Protocol Television).

“All these offerings will be powered through an ONT (Optical Network Terminal) box router which can connect 40-45 devices such as mobile phones, smart TVs, laptops, tablets and a range of smart devices," a source told Livemint.

Additional services like gaming, closed-circuit television and smart home systems could also be included.

“While the triple combo—which will offer 600 channels with seven-day catch-up option, landline and 100 mbps broadband—will be priced ₹600 a month, the tariff for adding other smart home services may cost extra and depending on the plan, the tariff could go up to ₹1,000 a month," the source added.

With internet speeds of 100 mbps, going up to 1 gigabytes per second (gbps), Jio GigaFiber will also allow storing of CCTV surveillance footage and other data on the cloud, which could be accessed across devices.

Reliance Industries Ltd. Chairman Mukesh Ambani had announced earlier that GigaFiber will be the largest greenfield fixed-line broadband rollout globally, being introduced concurrently in 1,100 cities across India.

Reliance last week revised that figure to 1,600 cities where the service will be rolled out.

The wired broadband market which is highly under-penetrated could be disrupted with the commercial launch of Jio GigaFiber, the report says.

Registrations for Jio GigaFiber had opened in August last year.
