Xiaomi launched its Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro in India. The models had already been launched in China. These are mid-segment devices priced below Rs 20,000 and offer relatively decent specifications and features.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro is the higher rated model of the two and sports a 6.53-inch full HD+ display that gets protection from Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The MediaTek Helio G90T gaming SoC is the processor fitted on this smartphone and gets RAM support of 6GB or 8GB. The internal storage is also available in two variants, 64GB and 128GB. The phone is being released with the Android Pie version 9.0 as the operating system, with a possible upgrade to Android 10 as and when it is released.

The company has used this India launch occasion to demonstrate the features of MIUI 11. It has given out a schedule for upgrading a range of Xiaomi models currently available in India and these two devices, the Redmi Note 8 Pro and Redmi Note 8 will also ultimately receive the upgrade.

The quad camera setup in the rear panel of the Redmi Note 8 Pro has the 64-megapixel ISOCELL Bright GW1 from Samsung, as the primary sensor. The sensors supporting it are 8MP+2MP+2MP, the last one being a depth sensor. The front camera for selfies is housed inside a waterdrop notch on the display is 20MP is resolution. There is a 4,500mAh battery under the hood. It has a 18W fast charging support with Xiaomi including the full capacity charger in the pack.  

The Redmi Note 8 has a whole lot of different specifications from the Pro version. It starts with a smaller 6.3 inches full HD+ display. The processor is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665SoC. The two RAM variants are 4GB and 6GB. The storage variants however are the same 64GB and 128GB. The Android Pie is the OS.

The rear camera setup is the same quad camera arrangement, but the primary shooter is 48MP. The remaining three are the same as the Redmi Note 8 Pro, 8MP+2MP+2MP. The front camera for selfies is 13MP. The battery is rated at 4,000mAh and the same 18W fast charger included in the pack. This model is available in two colours, crystal green and crystal blue.

Now, the prices for the Indian market: The top end 8GB+128GB Redmi Note 8 Pro will carry a price of Rs 17,999. The 6GB+128GB will be Rs 15,999 and the 6GB+64GB, Rs 14,999.

In the case of the Redmi Note 8, there are two options, 6GB+128GB which will retail at Rs 12,999 and 4GB+64GB at Rs 9,999.

The devices will start being available starting October 21 on Mi.com and on Amazon, Flipkart and in the offline retail outlets of Xiaomi, Mi Stores. Xiaomi has introduced the Mi Air Purifier in the Indian market as well.
