TMC MP in the Rajya Sabha Sukhendu Sekhar Roy has written to the President Pranab Mukherjee asking him for the removal of Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh. On Tuesday, Singh had said that the word “adhinayak” in the national anthem should be replaced by “mangal”. His reasoning was that the word is used to praise the British. In his letter, Roy quoted the Constitution and said that Singh “shall hold office during the pleasure of the President”. Mentioning that Singh had violated Articles 51A (a) and 159 of the Constitution, he has urged Mukherjee to take action against Singh “as may be deemed fit and proper including his removal”.“The reported statement of the Governor of Rajasthan as circulated and telecast in all print and electronic media seemed to be a veiled attempt to denigrate the national anthem of India before the people in and outside which was, otherwise, violative of the provisions of the Constitution of India,” he says in his letter. He goes on to mention that as the President, Mukherjee has the authority to act in this case and he should initiate action against Singh. Here is Roy’s letter in full:
