Tollywood actor Rana Daggubati has had his share of starring in historical films and his tryst with period flicks continues, with director Gunashekar signing him up to play King Hiranyakashipu in his upcoming film.

Reports suggest that Gunashekar has signed the actor up to play the demon king in the film and Rana has agreed.

Interestingly, the director and the actor worked together in Rudramadevi earlier, which also belonged to the historical genre.

According to the Puranas, Hiranyakashipu earned the boon from Lord Brahma for eternal life and continued to live a life that had no morals. His citizens were subjected to severe hardships due to his immoral ways and arrogance which eventually led Lord Vishnu taking the Narasimha avatar to bring him to his gory death.

Lord Vishnu, transformed into half human – half beast, would go on to tear Hiranyakashipu apart mid-air, thereby satisfying all the pre-requisites of Lord Brahma’s boon.

Director Gunashekar is getting ready to make this into a film and being a historical film it would be a high budget project. The groundwork for the movie has begun and the director is expected to come up with an announcement about his star cast and crew very soon.

Meanwhile, Rana, who is basking in glory over the grand success of his latest outing Baahubali: the Conclusion, will be completing Nenu Raja Nenu Manthiri very soon.

Written and directed by Teja, NRNM is a political thriller that also has Kajal Agarwal and Catherine Tresa as the female leads. Apart from this film, Rana has two Tamil projects in his kitty, Madai Thiranthu, directed by Sathya Siva and Gautham Menon’s Enai Noki Paayum Thota.

With the announcement from director Gunashekar, Rana’s fans are waiting eagerly to see him play Hiranyakashipu, the demon-king.
