Going by the industry grapevine, superstar Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated magnum opus 2.0, slated to hit the screens during Republic Day weekend, is most likely to be postponed to April 13 next year. On Sunday, rumours made the rounds that the Rs. 400 crore mega-budget flick, will be postponed following the announcement of Akshay Kumar, who confirmed that his upcoming film Pad Man, will release on January 25. In order to avoid clash with the Akshay-starrer, it is believed Lyca Productions, the makers of 2.0 have decided to push their release. However, they haven’t made any official announcement regarding the film’s postponement yet.

2.0 was originally slated for release this Diwali. It was postponed after the makers claimed that they needed more time to do full justice to the visual effects in the film. As many as 11 VFX studios around the world are working on the film. The film marks the southern debut of Akshay Kumar, who plays the antagonist. Akshay plays a scientist who turns into a bird-man after an experiment goes awry. Akshay’s look in the film was highly spoken about when audiences got a glimpse a few months ago.

Talking about his role at the recently concluded event in Dubai, Akshay said that it’d take him five hours to get ready to play his character. “It’d take me 3 and half hours to put on the makeup and another hour and a half to take it off.” In order to play his role, he said he didn’t have to rehearse much because all he was required to do was follow the instructions of Shankar blindly.

The film’s audio was launched in a grand manner last week in Dubai. It is believed that the film's trailer would be released on December 12, to commemorate the birthday of Rajinikanth. 2.0 will mark the return of Rajinikanth as Dr Vaseegaran and Chitti. The film, which has music by AR Rahman, will also be simultaneously released in Hindi and Telugu.
