The makers of superstar Rajinikanth’s Kaala have clarified that the film won’t hit the screens in January next year, contrary to some reports which made the rounds on Monday. Wunderbar Films, production house of Dhanush, clarified on Monday via a tweet that the film’s release hasn’t been advanced to January 2018. On Monday evening, superstar Rajinikanth told reporters at Chennai airport that Kaala will only release after 2.0. However, he didn’t confirm whether the Rs. 400 crore 2.0 will release as planned during the Republic Day weekend.

We have learnt from sources that Kaala might hit the screens during Tamil New Year in April. Directed by Pa Ranjith, who has reunited with Rajinikanth after last year’s Kabali, the film features Thalaivar in the role of a slum lord turned gangster. The film features Rajinikanth fighting for the rights of oppressed Tamils in Mumbai. Since the film has been mostly shot against the backdrop of Mumbai, the makers have simultaneously shot the film in Hindi. If not every scene, those featuring Rajinikanth and some key supporting cast will be shot in Hindi.

Unlike Kabali, the film won’t be dubbed in Hindi, and Rajinikanth is expected to mouth his lines in Hindi and in Marathi at some key junctures. Also starring Nana Patekar as a politician and Pankaj Tripathi as a cop, the film features Anjali Patil, Huma Qureshi and Samuthirakani in pivotal roles.

Rajinikanth’s 2.0, on the other hand, has shaped up very well. Made on a lavish budget, the film is believed to feature over 11,000 computer graphic shots, making it the highest number for an Indian film. A sequel to Enthiran, the film also stars Amy Jackson, Akshay Kumar and Sudhanshu Pandey in key roles.
