Buoyed by the way superstar Rajinikanth-starrer “Kabali” has been received by his fans all the over the world, producer Kalaipuli S Thanu has now plans to make a sequel. In an interview to Forbes, an elated Thanu said that the film has performed beyond his expectations at the box-office and he is planning to reunite with director Pa Ranjith for “Kabali 2”. However, the veteran producer didn’t comment on whether Thalaivar will also be part of the project.

Tipped to have been made on a budget of Rs 80 crore, “Kabali” even before its release ended up raking in around Rs 200 crore from its pre-release business. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the film reportedly collected around 70 crores on the first day. In India, the film collected Rs 39.1 crore on release day, according to Firstpost, surpassing Salman Khan “Sultan’s” opening day record of Rs 36 crore.

The true test for “Kabali” lies ahead in the domestic market. If the film can maintain the momentum through the week, then it might end up as a successful venture in the country. Otherwise, the result might upset a lot of distributors who bet big on this film.
