Reports say that the producers of the Prithviraj starrer Karnan have backed out from the film owing to budget issues.

The film’s producer Venu is reported to have said that he had to drop the film as the budget exceeded what he had in mind. It is said that the film’s budget was initially Rs. 60 crores.

Venu has now moved on to produce the Mammootty starrer Mamankam, which is a period flick based on the Mamankam festival celebrated in the 17th century.

Meanwhile, the director of Karnan, RS Vimal has said that his film is very much on the cards with a new production company coming forward to take it up. He said that the deal will be signed soon and that Prithviraj is expected to join the sets once it is done.

It may be recalled here that Karnan was announced earlier this year but there was no news about its progress. With reports of the producer backing off, it looks like there might be a delay in its commencement.

Prithviraj, one of the most prolific actors in Mollywood, made his debut in 2002 with Nandanam and has acted in a number of films including Akale, Classmates, Urumi, Bachelor Party, Ennu Ninte Moideen, Oozham, Adam Joan etc. He has a slew of films in his kitty right now with Vimaanam in the post-production mode. The star is currently busy filming for Detroit Crossing / Ranam in the US.

He also has My Story, an untitled Anjali Menon film, Aadu Jeevitham, Veluthampi Dalava and Syamanthakam lined up in various stages of production. Prithviraj will be making his directorial debut in summer next year with the Mohanlal starrer Lucifer.
