Apprehending arrest in connection with a criminal case filed against her for making allegations against Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and her Cabinet colleagues, DMDK leader Premalatha Vijayakant has moved the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail.

According to Premalatha, the Inspector of Police, Tirupur North Police Station, has registered a case against her under the Sections of 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 505 (1)(b) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code based on a complaint filed by Minister of Forest A.S.M. Anandan.

Alleging that the intention of the complainant was to harass her and other alliance leaders, the DMDK leader submitted that the entire allegation was false and sought the court to enlarge her on bail in case of arrest.

Justice K. Kalyanasundaram directed the prosecutor to get instructions from the authorities and posted the plea to April 18 for further hearing.
