Dhanya Rajendran | March 23, 2014 | 4.46 PM Pramod Muthalik, a leader of the Sri Ram Sena, which garnered national attention after they attacked women in a Mangalore pub in 2009, on Sunday, formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. This development has made many curious, with speculations and reactions pouring from all over the country. The News Minute speaks to Muthalik, about his entry into the party and his political ambitions. Why did you join the BJP ? I believe this is the time to act for the nation's good. I want to see Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister and there is a lot of corruption around. This was a decision I took to remove the United Progressive Alliance from the centre. How did this decision to join the party come through, who came forward with the suggestion first?Neither of us, we were always taking to each other about prospects. The RSS advised to join the BJP, all the seniors in RSS asked me to join the party. I just heeded to their advice and joined. You are someone associated with the Mangalore pub attack, which went against the fabric of our democracy. How can a person like you, join politics? That incident happened years ago, and the situation was different. In the last few years I have not been involved in any such actions. Congress and the other political parties are calling your entry into politics as a dangerous trend . . . How do you react? Congress has no right to speak about me, they engineered almost all the riots in the country. How can they point their finger at me? Please don't make me talk about Congress who manufacture riots. I have already been to jail for the pub attack anyway. What is the guarantee that you and your organisation will not repeat similar incidents in future like the pub attack? All that has changed, we will not do such things again. What do you think the BJP is gaining from taking you into the party, is it to bring any community or region's vote? No its not about community votes. It is about the hindutva votes. My aim is to bring all these votes to the BJP.
