The News Minute | November 13, 2014 | 1.08 pm ISTA war of words has ensued in Mangalore over the NDA government’s Swachh Bharat campaign. Some days ago a banner appeared in a commercial area of the coastal city accusing the BJP of appropriating Gandhi’s legacy and merely reducing it to a cleanliness campaign. The man who put up the banner, Congress leader P V Mohan said that the Prime Minister should speak of Hindu-Muslim unity, which was a lasting legacy of M K Gandhi.Read: "You know who killed Gandhiji. After killing him they use him as a mascot"Recently however, another banner has appeared in the city, and accuses the Congress of destroying Gandhi’s legacy. This banner is issued by one Narendra Shenoy in Kannada and is titled: “Do you know who built a samadhi for Gandhi’s principles?”. It says the Congress used Gandhi’s name to obtain power, and lists the things Gandhi stood for: he was the protector of cows, the one who said that peace is to be found in satsangs and bhajans, a lover of freedom, a truly secular person, father of nationalism, a staunch opponent of dynastic rule, an advocate of politics based on values, a staunch opponent of appeasement, an advocate of clean administration.
