New CCTV footage, showing the suspect in the murder of 24-year-old Swathi at Nungambakkam station in Chennai, has been released by the Government Railway Police. The CCTV footage shows the suspect, a young man wearing a white and blue checked shirt and black pants, and carrying a backpack walking past at around 6:30 am on Friday.
The footage released by the police belongs to a CCTV camera installed by a resident living near Nungambakkam station. Investigating officer and Superintendent of Police, P Vijayakumar confirmed to The News Minute that the footage was recorded prior to the murder, while the suspect was on his way to Nungambakkam station. The time on the video matches with the time of the murder, he said.
Footage from the same camera shows the suspect running past the track following the murder at 6:43 am.
Nungambakkam station has no CCTV cameras. The police had earlier released footage from another house in Choolaimedu.
Police requests anyone with information on the suspect to call 1512.
