The Kerala police on Sunday arrested Jayesh, Girilal and Jithin, staff of Kallada Travels (Suresh Kallada), for assaulting passengers on board.

The staff of the Kallada Travels bus, which was going from Haripad in Alappuzha district to Bengaluru on Saturday night, thrashed two passengers and forced them out of the bus in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

A case has been registered under Indian Penal Code Sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 294(b) (sings, recites or utters any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place) and section 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

A video showing staff of the private bus company beating passengers on board went viral in social media after another commuter posted it in Facebook. The bus, which started from Haripad at night, broke down around midnight. Though the passengers asked the staff about being stranded and about the safety of the women travellers on the bus, they give no clear answer, one of the passengers Jacob Philip wrote in Facebook.

Two of the passengers called operators of the travels in Kochi and had a heated conversation. Though the passengers boarded another bus after two hours of waiting, the men who questioned the staff were assaulted and forcefully evicted from the bus.

Jacob wrote in Facebook that it was around 4.30 am when Kallada employees got into the bus and started slapping and hitting the two young men. In the video one of the passengers who was being hit, can be seen repeatedly saying, ‘don’t touch me, I have paid Rs 1,000 and I’m travelling in this bus.’ But the passengers were forced out of the bus.

The Kallada staff can also be seen in the video telling the passengers ‘do you think you can get away after hitting the bus driver.’
