Days after DMK working president MK Stalin alleged that PM Modi was not ready to meet him, he accused Modi of conducting ‘katta panchayat’ by engineering a rift in AIADMK.

Addressing the media after his inspection of the desilting works in temple tanks in Shollinganallur Assembly constituency, MK Stalin said, “They (O Panneerselvam and Edapaddi Palaniswami) are meeting him for political reasons. To split AIADMK and now to merge both the factions, Prime Minister is doing these things commendably well like ‘katta panchayat’,” reported The New Indian Express.

Stalin also alleged that the Income Tax Department had found evidence against Chief Minister Edapaddi Palaniswami over money distribution in RK Nagar but his name was never mentioned. He said that O Panneerselvam was closely associated with sand mining baron Shekhar Reddy. Still, Prime Minister met both the leaders but he did not have time to meet the farmers.

Responding to Stalin’s statement, Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha M Thambidurai said that Stalin looks frustrated as he has been dreaming of becoming a chief minister for long. He also stated that being an Opposition leader, he is expected to make statements like this.

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister D Jayakumar called Stalin’s statement false and said that ‘katta panchayat’ and land grab incidents happened only during DMK’s governance.

On Tuesday, MK Stalin had alleged that Chief Minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami and his cabinet had become puppets in the hands of the Centre. He added that they have prostrated before the Centre because they cannot claim to have clean hands. “They are not able to get financial assistance to overcome the destruction caused by natural disasters,” said Stalin, as per a report in The Hindu
