Pinarayi Vijayan lashed out at Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Sunday, saying that the reports that the former was denied an appointment though he sought time were baseless.

“I hadn’t even thought of meeting the minister during my Delhi visit. I had written to the minister regarding the setting up of Kanjikode coach factory and had communicated this to the union government several times. The Palakkad MP has been bringing the issue to the notice of the Centre,” the Chief Minister said in a Facebook post.

This came after it was reported that Piyush Goyal had refused to give time to Pinarayi Vijayan. The former also reportedly said that the Kerala government hadn’t acquired land for the proposed coach factory.

The Centre recently told the state that the proposed coach factory won’t be feasible. Piyush Goyal, in a letter dated April 18, said that the “setting up such projects (rail coach factory) requires a sustained demand of coaches in the future.”

The coach factory had been announced in the 2008 railway budget. The state government had acquired 239 acres of land for the project six years ago.

“The land acquired for the project is now under the possession of the Railways. The dharna staged in front of the Rail Bhavan was to protest against the union government’s stand to give up the project. I had been there to inaugurate the dharna but didn’t try to meet the minister. Even the media is aware of this,” the post says.

The post further reads: “At first, I thought that the minister had no idea that the state had acquired the land required for the project. But, it’s deliberate that he keeps repeating that land has not been acquired. He should try to understand things and shouldn’t say anything in a vague manner solely because he is a union minister. His statement that the railway track can’t be built on air is blabbering. The state has shown progress in acquiring land for Railway projects. I will write to him pointing out the facts”.
