Actor-turned politician Pawan Kalyan, chief of the Jana Sena Party (JSP) on Wednesday announced that his party would stay neutral in the Nandyal by-elections.

He reiterated that his party will not go into polls till 2019. Communicating through his party’s official YouTube channel, he clarified that the Jana Sena will remain neutral in both the Nandyal by-election and the Kakinada Municipal Corporation election.

“We are still at the building stage as a political party. Although we have support from the public. We took feedback from the public, party activists and supporters and chose to remain neutral”, said Pawan.

He said that the party would only participate in the polls only once it completes the formation of the party at ground level.

Cautioning his supporters, the actor urged voters against believing any rumours about the Jana Sena extending its support to any particular party or candidate.

Despite a request from Andhra Pradesh Congress Chief Raghuveera Reddy to support their candidate, Pawan has taken a neutral stand as per the feedback of his cadre from Rayalaseema, The Hindu reported.

Earlier, when Pawan Kalyan met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to discuss the Uddanam cause, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was hopeful about his support for their party. The neutral stand taken by the actor has upset the party. Although Pawan has been an ally of the ruling TDP government, he has been vocal about the many issues over the last three years, and in particular about granting special status to the state.

According to Deccan Chronicle, the actor reportedly postponed his decision to extend support to any political party based on the observations of BJP chief Amit Shah.
