In a bid to grow its Ola Auto category, Indian cab aggregator Ola has introduced Wifi facilities for the category.

The facility has currently been piloted in major cities and towns where Ola Auto is available. The company says that it will soon be brought to Ola Autos across 73 cities in the country.

Ola Auto was launched in 2014, allowing users to book, track and pay for auto-rickshaw rides through the Ola app.

Currently available only in the ‘Prime’ category, Wifi connects seamlessly to internet for existing Ola customers as soon as the trip starts. First-time users need to connect to the Wifi through a one-time authentication key on their phones and enjoy the seamless auto-connect experience, every time they book a new ride.

“We have already disrupted the transportation sector by bringing one of the most traditional means of commute online for commuters and driver partners. With Auto-Connect Wifi, we are reinventing the 3-wheelers and enabling a connected experience for our customers. Our Auto-Connect Wifi experience is built on the foundations of key government initiatives such as Digital India. Through this first-of-its-kind innovation, we want to not only improve the quality of time spent while on the road, but also help build easy access to millions of users across the country,” Siddharth Agrawal, Sr. Director & Category Head - Auto said in a statement.

Ola has also announced that its ‘auto-connect Wifi’ will soon be extended to other categories including Mini, Lux, and Micro.

As Ola continues its fight against global rival Uber, it recently raised $1.1 billion led by Tencent Holdings in a round that also saw its existing investor SoftBank and other new US-based financial investors have also participated in this round.

Ola is also in advanced talks with other investors to close an additional $1 billion as part of the current financing round, concluding a total raise of over $2 billion.

Ola had said in a statement that it will use the latest round of funding to make strategic investments in supply, technology, and cutting edge innovations to build for the country’s unique transportation needs.
