Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that appropriate action will be taken against Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Rishiraj Singh for not saluting Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala at a passing out parade of state women police in Thrissur on Saturday. A photograph doing the rounds showing ADGP sitting and seemingly ignoring the Home Minister while other police officers salute the minister had gone viral in media. The Chief Minister has said that Rishiraj Singh's actions were wrong and protocols needed to be followed. Kerala Director General of Police (DGP) TP Senkumar has sent a letter to Rishiraj Singh saying that if his action was deliberate, then it was a mistake. According to a Manorama News report, the DGP has reminded Singh to maintain the decorum of the force being a disciplined officer. The report says that the letter neither has not sought any explanation from the officer nor mentioned any disciplinary action against him. Singh's picture with the Home minister surfaced after his sudden transfer from the post as the vigilance chief of the state electricity board to the armed police force division. It was alleged that the transfer was at the behest of an influential businessman. Singh’s first explanation for his behavior at the event was that it is nowhere mentioned in the protocol to stand up when VIP's arrive unless the National Anthem is recited. But Senkumar told media that it is not about protocol but a matter of courtesy and if Singh’s action was purposeful then it is a mistake. He had also added while speaking to media on Sunday that Singh is a disciplined officer and he may not have noticed the Minister’s arrival. However Home Minister had earlier dismissed all controversies saying, “Rumours related to police parade function is false. After the event he had contacted me over phone and had explained his reasons. All these are fake news, just think is it fair to cook up stories,” he wrote in Facebook post.  Â
