At a function in Sadguru Seva Ashram in Coimbatore on Sunday, members of the North Indian Sangam (comprised of Rajasthani Samaj, Gujarati Samaj and so on) in Coimbatore gathered to perform prayers for the speedy recovery of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
Attended by around 300 people, the event was presided over by the Sangam president G Shravan Bohra. Minister of Tamil Nadu SP Velumani, RS Puram ward councillor Manimeghalai, were also present at the function.
People gathered participated in prayers like Sundar kandh, Maha mrityunjay recitals, rudra abhishekam and anandam, for Jayalalithaa's recovery.
The group also organised annadanam (offering of food) for about 500 children.
Since Jayalalithaa was hospitalised at Chennai's Apollo hospital on September 22, supporters have been fervently praying for her speedy recovery. On October 3, Vetrivel, an AIADMK district secretary organized a prayer rally at RK Nagar in North Chennai on October 23. Hundreds of party workers turned up with pails of milk, a practice usually observed when praying to the deity Muruga.
At the same rally, an AIADMK worker hung himself on a crane with hooks piercing his back, praying for Jaya's speedy recovery.
But it’s not just party cadres, who are praying for Jayalalithaa to return to office. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu held prayers for his Tamil Nadu counterpart on October 12 at the Tirumala temple. He even sent prasadam to Apollo Hospital in Chennai for Jayalalithaa.
The Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts Society had earlier organised the playing of 108 veenas at Madurai Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple. Yagnas were conducted by AIADMK workers in Nilgiris district as well as Namakkal town. Prayers have also been offered at churches in Kumbakonam, Dindigul and Tiruvallur as well as a mosque in Kanyakumari.
