News that YSRCP MLA Roja was arrested in Kuwait went viral on social media on Sunday after a few local Telugu channels reportedly carried the news.

Roja was in Kuwait with her family for Dusshera holidays, but had attended a YSRCP meeting organised by the party's NRI cell in the city.

While some news reports claimed that the organisers did not take any permission from the police for the event, and created a ruckus, others reported that 'severe efforts' were being undertaken to get Roja out of police custody.

According to posts on her official Facebook page, Roja attended the meeting, which was packed with YSRCP activists, who began hooting and cheering as she entered the venue.

Additionally, in her speech, Roja riled up the crowd, who could be heard whistling and constantly creating a ruckus. According to reports, other people in the hotel had then called the police.

It was this that led media reports to speculate that she had been arrested.

The legislator from Nagari has since clarified what happened.

In a 1-minute video sent to media outlets, Roja said, "The meeting in Kuwait today took place very successfully. However, some news channels are broadcasting false information that I've been arrested based on some social media posts. All this is wrong."

"We thought it would be a small get together, but it turned out to be a big meeting that had overcrowded. Therefore, the Kuwait police came to check on what happened. Whatever happened, took place between the organisers and the police, and we did not go through any trouble," she adds.

"The meeting was very successful. I don't know who gave you (media) the news, but it is wrong. If you are broadcasting anything like that, please stop it. I'm at a friend's house and I'm happy," she concludes.

The actor-politician also posted a video of her, with her family, at a mall later on Sunday, on her official Facebook page.
