
The News Minute | April 6, 2015 | 09:06 am IST A whopping Rs 61 k was raked in an auction of nine lemons in a temple in Viluppuram in Tamil Nadu, states a report by The New Indian Express. The lemons, said to have divine powers which could help childless couples conceive, were bought by nine couples in the ‘Two Hills’ Murugan temple at Ottanandhal village. According to the report, in a 11-day festival during the Tamil month of Panguni celebrated in the temple, nine lemons are pierced, kept near the deity and once a pooja is performed, the lemons are auctioned off. On Saturday night a similar such auction was held in which 500 people from and outside the state participated.
