The Hyderabad Cyber Crime police arrested a Nigerian from Mumbai on charges of fraud, after he allegedly duped a person to the tune of Rs 1.42 lakh, under the pretext of offering him a business deal.

The accused was identified as Ikechukuwu Okoro.

According to the police, Syed Zafar Ahmed, a resident of Hyderabad, met a person called Angelina Francis on Facebook, who introduced herself as an employee from an England-based pharmaceutical company called ‘Phylorzeric’, reported Deccan Chronicle.

She proposed a business deal to Syed and asked him to purchase ‘alotic wild nuts’ from her company.

Persuaded by Angelina, Syed purchased a packet of nuts for Rs 1.42 lakh from a supplier in Meghalaya via online transactions. After the purchase, the woman asked him to hand over the product to some company representatives, who supposedly came to India from England.

However, the representatives instead of buying the nuts, asked him to buy 20 more such packets costing around Rs 28.5 lakh, which Syed didn’t agree to, reported The Hindu.

After the futile business deal, the victim demanded that his money be returned. However, he later realised that he was taken for a ride as Angelina stopped responding to his phone calls.

Following Syed’s complaint, the Cyberabad Cyber Crime sleuths analysed the bank transactions and arrested Okoro from Navi Mumbai. It was then revealed that it was Okoro who was talking to the victim and posing as Angelina, reported DC.

The Times of India reported that the accused confessed to the crime, and also stated that he has cheated many in the same manner.

The accused has been sent to remand.
