In a heart-wrenching incident in Hyderabad, a three-year-old girl baby dumped in bushes at Shankarpally was found mauled by a pack of dogs.

The baby, assumed to be abandoned by her parents, was found dead in a decomposed state in bushes near Phirangi Nala on Saturday morning, The Times of India reported.

However, police are yet to determine if the infant was killed and then the body was abandoned or the girl was left to die.

Police have registered under Section 318 (Concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body) of the Indian Penal Code.

Shnakarpally Police told TOI, “The body was found in a secluded place. It was locals who found the girl's body and alerted the village revenue officer (VRO), who in turn informed the police. The body of the newborn was sent to post-mortem examination (PME).”

The Hindu reports, that Residents of the locality saw a pack of dogs dragging a blanket from the bushes and the torso of the infant in it. They then chased away the dogs and called in the police.

Unfortunately, this is not the first such instance. Earlier in June, similarly a new-born girl wrapped in a polythene cover was found abandoned near a garbage bin in Kothaguda, Gachibowli. However, the baby was fortunate enough to survive as a woman heard the cries of the baby and informed the police. After giving first-aid to the baby, she was shifted to a government hospital in Kondapur and later to Shishu Vihar.

Similarly, last year, a new born girl child was abandoned in a garbage bin in Moula Ali. However, locals who heard the cries of the baby rushed the baby to the hospital with the help of police.
