Remember Arunraja Kamaraja, who penned the hit song Neruppuda from superstar Rajinikanth starrer Kabali? The popularity of the song made him an overnight sensation and his happiness knew no bounds. Cashing in on the success, he went on to write the title song of Vijay’s Bairavaa, and it was also well received. The actor-singer turned lyricist is set to make his directorial debut with a film on women’s cricket. Apparently, he came into the industry with dreams of becoming a filmmaker but fate willed otherwise.

Talking to Times of India, he said, “I came into the industry with the aim of becoming a filmmaker. I'd participated in Naalaya Iyakkunar and had also worked as an assistant director in Vettai Mannan. I later took up acting, writing lyrics and singing to earn my livelihood. But I've always aspired to direct a film. And now, the time is right. I'm debuting as a director with a sports-based film, one which deals with women's cricket."

Elaborating on why he decided to make a film with sports as the backdrop, he said, “There are several films that deal with other kind of sports, but mine will probably be the first one to talk about women's cricket. I can say it will be one-of-a-kind. I'd written the script before the women's cricket world cup, and was trying to gauge how people would react to a story like this. But after our team's performance and seeing the way people cheered for them, I became confident."

He also said that at the core, his film sheds light on the relationship between a father and his daughter. He is on the lookout for girls who play cricket and he has already started the audition process which might take a few months.
