Nandyal bye-poll battle rages on in Andhra: YSRCP chief Jagan calls CM Naidu a 'liar'

Andhra Pradesh politics continued to heat up in the background of the Nandyal bye-poll as YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday lashed out at Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, and called him a 'liar'.

“Let Nandyal play the trigger shot to dethrone Naidu. Trust the efficacy of the fan (the YSRCP party symbol) to breeze through problems and be the agents of change," Jagan was quoted as saying.

Jagan was addressing a road show at Rythunagar and Kanala, in Nandyal Assembly constituency.

Stating that "the YSRCP needs all your blessings and goodwill," he asked the people to extend their support to his party's candidate, Silpa Mohan Reddy.

"Nandyal by-elections is a contest between morality and immorality. Would ministers have visited Nandyal if not for the bye-election? Chandrababu Naidu has found another reason to betray people through this bye-poll. He has not fulfilled even one single promise until now," Jagan claimed.

He went on to add, "TDP promised to waive not only farmer loans but also loans taken by DWCRA women. They propagated that if people want jobs, they have to elect (Chandra)Babu. The party made all such false promises."

He also claimed that he was not as good at 'lying', as Chandrababu Naidu was.

The YSRCP also announced nine promises that it would fulfill, to address all sections of the society.

"Once we come into power, every parliamentary constituency will be made a district. So, there will be 25 districts in the state. We will develop Nandyal into a model town," Jagan said.

Appealing people to vote for the YSRCP even in the 2019 general elections, Jagan said, "The war for dharma, the war of Kurukshetra will begin in a year. Every vote you cast for Nandyal should become a war cry. Vote for righteousness."

The Nandyal bye-poll is due to be held on August 23.

Nandyal, a constituency in the state's Rayalaseema area, has been witnessing a political void ever since the death of its sitting MLA Bhuma Nagi Reddy from a heart attack on March 12.

The TDP candidate is Bhuma Brahmananda Reddy while the YSRCP candidate is Silpa Mohan Reddy.

The EC announced that the counting of votes will be held on August 28, and electronic voting machines and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPATs) will be used in all the polling stations.
