The News Minute| March 9, 2015| 10.40 pm ISTThe latest to join a string of actors taking to social media to clarify their comments is Malayalam actor Navya Nair. A recent comment by the actor had churned much controversy as critics alleged that she advocated having more brothels in the country.Navya has come up with the clarification over her statement that was reported by some media houses.‘I feel pity for the media house that published my statement without understanding it. I did not advocate for brothels,” she wrote in a Facebook post. She then posted her previous statement and asked people to read it.“My statement was this: ‘In our country cases of sexual assault are increasing, culprits are not getting adequate punishment. I have seen many discussions about this issue on TV channels. Some say that having more brothels will be a solution to this issue. If it is appropriate to our culture, tradition and morality then government should think about it. Some blame the woman’s dressing style for assaults, but that cannot be cited as reason. We should have personal freedom to dress, but we should consider the circumstances while dressing.’ This is what I said. If there is anything wrong in it, I am ready to apologize. I am not ready for any controversies. If my opinion has hurt anyone please forgive me,” she wrote in the Facebook post.
