The News Minute | July 3, 2014 | 1.46 pm IST A Muslim youth was assaulted on Thursday morning in Dakshina Kannada district, allegedly for being with a Hindu girl. Speaking to The News Minute Superintendent of Police Sharanappa said that a youth named Rehman had been assaulted in what appeared to be a case of “mistaken identity”. He said that a youth named Kiran was with his sister and his friend Rehman when they were accosted and Rehman assaulted.  He said that a case is being registered with the Bantwal Town police, and that it was still unclear as to what had happened. The incident occurred near the Shri Rama Vidya Samsthe in Kalladka, Bantwal taluk.  Owing to communal conflagrations in the last few months, the district police had installed CCTV cameras in “sensitive locations”. Even though the incident had not occurred in the vicinity of the cameras, the footage would be examined to see if “any movement of suspects” had been recorded, Sharanappa said. The time of the assault is unclear as the jurisdictional police say they had “no information” and asked this correspondent to call back later.
