Luxury goods manufacturer Montblanc, known for their stylish writing instruments and leather products, launched their latest collection in writing instruments - Meisterstück Le Petit Prince edition, recently. Montblanc’s CEO, Nicolas Baretzki, is extremely happy with their performance in the country and was here in Chennai to launch two new boutiques in the city - one in Palladium, Phoenix Market City and another in Express Avenue mall.

“India is a very important market for us. We started here 25 years ago and we can see that the country is developing very fast,” said Nicolas in an interview to TNM. Montblanc currently has 10 standalone boutiques in six different Indian cities like Pune, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi and their recent addition being Chennai.

While Montblanc started as a writing instrument company, they’ve expanded into leather goods as well. Their latest writing line in writing instruments has been inspired by the tale of Little Prince. While Meisterstück is known for its iconic black resin - the blackest of all black - this latest Le Petit Prince edition comes in an interesting blue resin, the first colour to be introduced in Meisterstück.

“We wanted to work on special edition and link it to the very famous story of the Little Prince. Every European student has read this story in their school and so it strikes a deeper chord,” explains Nicolas.

Meisterstück Le Petit Prince Doué Classique Edition pairs the deep blue colour of the lacquer barrel with the luminosity of a platinum-coated cap elegantly decorated with engravings of the fox pattern.

The fox pattern covers both the cap and barrel of the Meisterstück Le Petit Prince Solitaire, engraved on the deep blue lacquer. Contrasting with the blue, the fittings are crafted from platinum-coated metal.

“Chennai has a big group of collectors and this edition being the first special collection that comes in blue will surely be appreciated by many. Blue is the new black,” he laughs.

112 years ago, Montblanc developed a fountain pen that wouldn’t leak. Today, they have created a writing technology that bridges the analog with the digital. Augmented Paper helps transfer what’s written on it to digital devices with just a press of a button. The device is available in leather casing in different variants.

Montblanc has also expanded its reach by launching its own e-comm platform last month. “We’ve found that we’ve got customers from places that were not on the top list of cities we wanted to expand in. The market is getting quite mature and with a digital platform we’ve been able to gather great insights,” he added.
