Ever since the trailer of Mohanlal’s upcoming film Villain was released on September 1, expectations began to soar regarding its release.

Now, there is a buzz that the film may be out to cash in on the Dasara holidays. Sources say that the filmmakers are contemplating releasing it on September 28th but nothing has been finalized yet as the post production work is still going on.

Directed by B Unnikrishnan, the film has been produced by Rockline Venkatesh under his banner. Incidentally, this is the first Malayalam production venture of the producer. Starring Mohanlal and Manju Warrier in the star cast, the film has Vishal, Raashi Khanna and Hansika Motwani in the star cast.

For Vishal, Raashi Khanna and Hansika Motwani, Villain will mark their debut in the Malayalam film industry. Actors in the supporting cast include Renji Panicker, Srikanth, Aju Varghese, Chemban Vinod Jose, Vinayakan, Anand, Idavela Babu, Kottayam Nazeer, Balaji Sarma and Antony Perumbavoor.

The cinematography has been handled by Manoj Paramahamsa and editing is by Shameer Mohammed. The film has been produced by Rockline Venkatesh under the banner Rockline Entertainments Pvt Ltd. on a budget of about Rs. 30 crores.

Villain is the first Indian film to be filmed entirely in the 8k resolutions and released in the same format. Touted to be an action crime thriller, the film will have some high octane action sequences which have been choreographed by Ravi Varma, Ram Laxman, and Action G. The film has Mohanlal playing a retired police officer. It may be mentioned here that the film’s first teaser was released in April this year and had clocked 1 million views in less than three hours.
