Director Jibu Jacob tweeted recently that his Mohanlal starrer Munthirivallikal Thalirkumbol has reached the Rs. 50-crore club. This is a rare distinction and it is the fourth film with Mohanlal in the lead to enter the 50-crore club. Other Mohanlal films that have grossed 50 crores at the box office are Oppam, Janatha Garage and Pulimurugan.

The entertainer is based on the short story Pranayopanishath penned by author VJ James. With screenplay by M Sindhuraj, it had the Drishyam pair Mohanlal and Meena essaying the lead roles. The film was bankrolled by Sophia Paul under the banner Weekend Blockbusters. Bijibal composed two songs and the background music while Jayachandran composed two other songs. Cinematography was by Pramod K Pillai and editing by Sooraj ES.

Mohanlal’s next release is 1971: Beyond Borders, a war film, directed by Major Ravi. The film shooting has been completed and it is likely to hit the screens on April 7, 2017. Tollywood hero Allu Sirish is playing an important role in this flick.
