Setting all rumours to rest, senior advocate MK Damodaran’s office confirmed to The News Minute that he would not take up the post of legal advisor to the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
This was seconded by the state government too in its reply to the Kerala High Court which was about to hear a petition filed by BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan against such a proposed move.
Damodaran reiterated that he was pained at the needless controversy that was raked up by the media over his proposed appointment.
The LDF government’s decision to appoint Damodaran as a Principal Secretary in the LDF government had become controversial for many reasons.
CPI(M) ally CPI too had expressed reservations over the appointment.
Damodaran was also the counsel for lottery king Santiago Martin in the lottery scam that had broken out in the previous UDF regime. CM Pinarayi had defended Damodaran in the state Assembly by informing the House that the lawyer was not being paid any remuneration for his role as legal advisor and that he was free to take other cases.
