A 4-year-old girl fell off a moving train near Pettah in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday evening. It was only a few minutes later that her family realized that she was missing.

Anjali, an LKG student fell off the Kollam-Nagarcoil passenger train on Sunday evening, after which, she was rushed to a nearby hospital by witnesses.

Her family was, however, oblivious to the accident for a little over fifteen minutes. The family of four was traveling to Pappanamkode in Thiruvananthapuram district when the mishap occurred.

Anjali’s father Anil Kumar told The News Minute that he had left Anjali with his wife when he went to the bathroom. The girl had followed her father since the train had halted at the Pettah railway station at the time.

“I didn’t know she had followed me. My wife let her go thinking she would have found me,” he said.

However, ten minutes later as the train reached Trivandrum central railway station, the parents realized that Anjali was missing.

“Initially we thought that she was playing a prank on us by hiding beneath the seats, but soon realized she was in fact missing from the compartment,” he recalled.

After informing the railway police that their daughter had gone missing, they were informed by the Pettah police that she had been admitted to the hospital with severe injuries.

“Other passengers had seen the girl fall off the train and informed us at around 5 in the evening,” an official of Rail Alert said.

Anil Kumar, a construction worker, suspects that the door could have hit the girl when it started moving, leading to her fall.

Anjali underwent a surgery at SAT hospital late on Sunday evening and was shifted to the ICU. Doctors at the hospital informed that her condition is now stable.
