Minor girl who had gone to fetch water allegedly raped in the heart of Hyderabad

A 15-year-old girl who had simply gone to collect drinking water for her family in Hyderabad was allegedly raped by a man on Tuesday morning. 

 

According to the Sanath Nagar Police station Inspector Venkat Reddy, the minor girl, a resident of Borabanda basti, had gone to fetch drinking water at around 7 am on Tuesday when the incident occurred.

 

“The girl had gone to fetch some drinking water from Vijetha Theatre, which is located opposite her house. The theatre watchman Prasad is alleged to have pushed her into the bathroom and raped her,” Inspector Venkat Reddy said.

 

According to the police, the basti that is located near the house of Hyderabad Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin has no drinking water facilities.

 

“The girl does not go to school and she was assigned the task of cooking food for the family. Her parents are both construction workers and the residents of the basti have no drinking water, which is why the girl and many residents of the basti go to Vijetha Theatre to get water,” Sanath Nagar Police said.

 

However, police allege that the watchman had a problem with the residents taking water from the theatre and confronted the girl.

 

“According to the girl, the watchman told her not to take the water and when she asked him once again, he is said to have assaulted her, pushed her into the bathroom and raped her,” the police added.

 

The minor girl’s relative told TNM that her niece did not come home even after an hour. That’s when her family began worrying.

 

“An hour after she went to the theatre, she did not return. I went to the theatre and asked the watchman if he had seen her because she had gone to fetch water. The watchman said that she had not come there. I went back and tried to look for her in the basti but could not find her. Again, at around 9.30 am I went to the theatre and this time, he pushed her out of the bathroom,” the relative added.

 

Soon after, the minor girl recounted the horror she had been through, to her parents. At around 11.30 am, Prasad was arrested by the Sanath Nagar Police after the girl’s parents filed a complaint.

 

“An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the POCSO act and also section 376 of IPC. We are investigating the matter,” Balanagar ACP Govardan said.

 

The Sanath Nagar Police are waiting for the medical examination report of the girl.
