The Nunna police in Vijayawada on Saturday arrested a 45-year-old woman for allegedly raping a 15-year-old minor boy.

The minor was reportedly subjected to months of sexual harassment.

While the incident allegedly took place earlier, it came to light after the boy’s family filed a police complaint, when neighbours and family members caught the woman in their house.

The accused is a neighbour and lived next to the minor’s residence. The 15-year-old boy, according to police, was ‘lured’ by the woman.

Speaking to TNM, Nunna Inspector of Police said, "The boy is a minor and it seems that she was sexually abusing him for more than a month."

“We have registered under Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act based on a complaint by the mother of the boy,” he added.

The police said that the boy had recently returned home to Vijayawada after a vacation at his relative’s place during summer.

“The required medical examination has been done on both. The accused woman was sent to remand," the inspector added.

Andhra Pradesh has recently witnessed a spate of sexual crimes against children, which has resulted in angry residents taking to the streets to protest.

Last month, residents blocked a road near a police station, pelted stones, and set fire to some vehicles, as news of an alleged attempt to sexually assault a 10-year-old in Guntur district spread.

Earlier that week, the Srikalahasthi Rural police in Chittoor district arrested a 65-year-old man on charges of raping two minor girls.

That was preceded by yet another incident when it was reported that a 14-year-old minor girl was allegedly repeatedly raped and impregnated in a town in Guntur district by a local TDP leader.

Responding to one such incident, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had earlier called for publicly hanging such rapists, adding that his government would be tough while dealing with such criminals.
