BJP President Amit Shah on Thursday took a dig at Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu after the latter's defeat in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha polls. Taking a shot at the opposition parties and especially naming Chandrababu Naidu, Amit Shah on Thursday said, "If you would have worked this hard to gain votes in your own state (instead of uniting opposition parties), then maybe you would have won more seats."

Speaking at BJP's victory meeting at the party headquarters in New Delhi, Shah lashed out at the 21 opposition parties led by Naidu, who approached the Election Commission to complain about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and VVPAT slips. The delegation of the opposition parties was led by Chandrababu Naidu.

Naidu also traveled to Delhi several times in the run-up to the results, in an attempt to stitch up an anti-BJP front.

The BJP President also congratulated YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for the landslide victory of the party in Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the YSRCP leader on his win.

“Dear @ysjagan, Congratulations on the remarkable win in Andhra Pradesh. Best wishes to you for a successful tenure,” he tweeted. The tweet also included a message in Telugu along the same lines.

Narendra Modi on Thursday led the BJP to a stunning and historic victory in the Lok Sabha elections, with the ruling party itself set to win 303 seats in a marked improvement over its 2014 showing that left the opposition dazed and demoralised. The BJP-led NDA is poised to get 348 of the 542 Lok Sabha seats where polling took place in a seven-phase election.
