Maruti XL6, the Ertiga based six-seater premium MPV has been launched in India at Rs 9.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new XL6 is available only with Petrol engine option in two trim levels – Zeta and Alpha. It will be sold via Maruti's Nexa chain of dealerships.

At the launch event, Kenichi Ayukawa, MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said, “At Maruti Suzuki, we have always focused on bringing products that match the customers’ demand. The XL6 is an exclusive six-seater premium MPV, designed to meet the aspirations of evolved NEXA customers. The vehicle would be sold through the company’s Nexa premium retail chain which has expanded its presence in over 200 cities with 364 outlets. There is a considerable increase in demand for premium multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) owing to the ever-evolving customer needs. As the leading automobile manufacturer of the country, MSI will ensure meeting all these regulations, expectations and requirements. On regulations, we will be ready much before the stipulated timelines.”

Based on the new-gen Ertiga, the Maruti XL6 borrows its design and styling cues from the same. However, it gets differentiated from the Ertiga with a restyled front-end featuring a larger grille with chrome detailing, new LED headlamps, a chunkier bumper and a faux skid-plate that offers the XL6, a more stylish appeal. Other exterior features include the blacked-out 15-inch alloy wheels and mirror caps, roof rails and plastic side-body cladding along with a reworked bumper with cladding and a faux skid-plate at the rear.

Internally, the XL6 gets an all-black colour theme and comes power packed with premium features. The standard safety features include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, a speed warning system and seat-belt reminders for the driver and co-driver. The top-spec Alpha variant of the XL6 gets automatic climate control, rear AC vents, automatic headlamps and wipers, LED DRLs, keyless entry, cruise control, a rear parking camera, height adjustable driver seat and the Maruti’s new SmartPlay Studio infotainment system featuring a 7.0-inch touchscreen display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

The engine powering the XL6 is the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated K15B Smart Hybrid petrol engine that powers the Ciaz and the Ertiga, but in the BS6-compliant version. The engine develops 103bhp power at 6,000rpm and 138Nm of peak torque at 4,400rpm. Power to the wheels gets transmitted via a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The company claims an ARAI certified mileage of 19.01kmpl for the Petrol Manual and 17.99kmpl for the Petrol AMT variants.

Dimensionally, the XL6 is 50mm longer, 40mm wider and 10mm taller than the Ertiga and hence measures 4,445mm, 1,775mm and 1,700mm in terms of length, width and height respectively. The wheelbase of 2,740mm and the 5.2m minimum turning radius remains identical to the Ertiga.

The XL6 is available in six colour options that include Metallic Premium Silver, Metallic Magma Grey, Prime Auburn Red, Pearl Brave Khaki, Pearl Arctic White and Nexa Blue.

In terms of competition, the new Maruti XL6 will take on the likes of the Mahindra Marazzo and the Renault Lodgy MPVs.

The Maruti XL6 variants (all prices ex-showroom Delhi) are priced as follows: Zeta MT Petrol – Rs.9.80 lakh, Alpha MT Petrol – Rs.10.36 lakh, Zeta AT Petrol – Rs.10.90 lakh, Alpha AT Petrol – Rs.11.46 lakh.
