Keen to continue her studies at her parent's home, a 16-year-old married girl from Bundi in Rajasthan sought the help of the police and district administration to stop her father-in-law and his relative from taking her to her matrimonial home.
The incident occurred yesterday when the minor girl, a resident of Nainwa area and studying in Class 10, called up police which detained her in-laws and released them after they gave an assurance before a Tehsildar that she will be taken to her matrimonial home only after she turns 18.
"Apart from calling us, she also called up Deputy Superintendent of Police and Sub Divisional Magistrate, saying she was a minor and that her in-laws have arrived to take her but she doesn't want to go and continue with her studies. She also requested them to stop her in-laws from taking her," said SHO of Nainwa Police station, Ramanand Yadev.
Taking immediate action, police detained her father-in-law and his brother and brought them to police station, he said.
They were later produced before the Tehsildar who released them after extracting an assurance from them that the girl would be taken to her in laws home only after she turns 18, Yadev said.
The girl was married six years ago to a youth from Khanpura village.
The minor's age was also verified from her school, Yadev said, adding since no written complaint was received, no further action was taken.
