National award-winning filmmaker Mani Ratnam has finally started shooting for “Kaatru Veliyidai” in Ooty instead of Kashmir, as originally planned. With Karthi in the lead, the film also stars Aditi Rao Hydari and RJ Balaj and veteran actor Delhi Ganesh, the latest addition to the cast. Ganesh, who has starred alongside Kamal Haasan in films such as” Nayagan” , “Avvai Shanmugi” and “Michael Madana Kamarajan”, is rumoured to be playing Karthi’s father in the film.
Set against a war backdrop, the film, tipped to be a romantic drama, features Karthi in the role of a pilot who falls in love with Aditi, while on a trip to India. RJ Balaji and Kannada actress Shraddha Srinath will be seen in pivotal roles in the film.
Music is by AR Rahman while cinematography is by Ravi Varman. While Karthi is expected to join the sets next week, Mani Ratnam has reportedly already started filming important scenes featuring Aditi, who was last seen in Tamil film, “Srirangam”.
Jointly produced by Madras Talkies and Thenandal Films, the makers are planning to release the film towards the end of this year or early next year.
