A man pretending to be an Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), Intelligence, was arrested by the Hyderabad police on Sunday after he allegedly cheated many people. The arrest was carried out by sleuths of the Commissioner’s Task Force, West Zone.

The accused, was identified as 29-year-old M V Ravichandra, a native of Bhadadri Kothagudem district, who was staying in Secunderabad’s Marredpally area.

The police said that Ravichandra was living in Marredpally since 2013 and worked as a data entry operator. However, as he claimed to be passionate about joining the police department, he told his friends and neighbours that he had been selected as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) and was working in the Intelligence Department.

“The accused studied up to SSC at Palvancha in Bhadadri Kothagudem district. In the year 2004, his family members shifted to Godavarikani in Peddapalli District for his father’s job purpose and he completed Intermediate there. In the year 2008, he shifted to Hyderabad and joined in Ellenki College of Technologies, Patancheru for doing B.Tech and completed it in the year 2012, but he did not pass in all subjects of his final year,” the police said.

In August 2015, the accused allegedly beat one person after identifying himself as a DySP. The police said that a case was registered at the Neredmet police station and the accused even went to Cherlapally central jail for two days.

Following this, he shifted his residence but did not change his attitude, the police said.

“To believe him as Police, he also procured one Identity Card on the name of ‘M.RAVI CHANDRA, DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT 486, T.S. POLICE, I.D. NO.2018 054819’ and other incriminating materials pertaining to Police Department to show them to his friends, relatives and neighbours,” the police added.

However, on April 20, the police found him carrying these documents in the West Marredpally area and immediately apprehended him.

Besides the ID card, the police seized one name board, one medical and fitness certificate from Gandhi Hospital, in the name of ACP M V Ravichandra, one green pen and one cell phone.

A case was registered under Section 170 (Personating a public servant) and accused was handed over to the Marredpally police for further investigation.

The police also issued an appeal to the general public to be cautious about people making such claims and to double check their genuineness before approaching them over an issue. The public was also advised to approach the police if anyone was cheating them in this manner.
