Her late-night parties did not stop and Akash wanted a divorce, and got one. But mentioning that a family court was wrong to grant it, the Bombay High Court told the husband that excessive socializing could not be a reason for getting a divorce. A report in The Times of India mentions that 42-year-old Akash had got a divorce from his wife Sonia (names changed) through a family court in 2011. Sonia later appealed to an appellate court and got the verdict overturned but Akash appealed to the HC. Akash had alleged that his wife, with whom he had two children, attended late-night parties and made his life miserable as a result. He claimed that she misbehaved with him after being inebriated and also hit his father. The court said that both claims were unsubstantiated but observed that even Akash had brought along a lady friend home when she was too drunk. ¬†‚ÄúThis indicates that (the) life of Akash and Sonia was not a normal life of (a) conservative married couple. Both of them appeared to be in the nature of socializing and were in (the) habit of enjoying parties. Therefore, it cannot be concluded that Sonia had subjected Akash to cruelty, either physical or mental,‚ÄĚ said the court. The court further added that ‚ÄúSocializing to some extent in the present society is permissible.‚ÄĚ ¬†
