The News Minute | June 11, 2014 | 07:33 pm IST Christin Howard from Detroit was recently beaten up by a group of men outside the Motor City Pride Festival. Howards, still reeling from shock, believes he was targeted because he is gay. The 22 year old hair-stylist claims that the attack has left him with a bruised face, injured left eye and a fractured finger. The police have labeled it as hate crime, according to a report in Detroit Free Press. Howard was posing with a girl for a photograph at the annual event, when a random stranger begun harassing him verbally. The guy also passed some coarse comments on Howard sporting long hair. He was followed and five more men joined and attacked him. No one came to help him. The incident was recorded and uploaded on YouTube by another stranger. Although the police are investigating the matter, the incident continues to haunt Howard. Several people have voiced their support for him on social media and a #justiceforchonglee- his name on Instagram- hash tag has been created. A Christin Howard gay bashing fund has also been set up on Facebook in his support. This incident throws light on the fact that no matter how progressive a world we live in, our attitudes may not necessarily reflect the same. Every society comprises of people who refuse to shirk of their ignorance and be open to change. The government passing laws will never be enough until we change our attitudes and are fully accepting of it. View the full video here:
