In the wake of the devastating rains in Kerala, the latest from the film industry to contribute to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) are Malayalam actor Mammootty, his son and actor, Dulquer Salmaan, who gave a total of Rs 25 lakh on Monday.

The Ernakulam District Collector, K Mohammed Y Safirulla, in a Facebook post on Monday announced that actor Mammootty donated Rs 15 lakh while his son and actor Dulquer Salmaan also gave Rs 10 lakh to the CMDRF.

Mammooty personally handed over the cheque to the district collector in his chambers.

Actor Dulquer Salmaan in his social media handle on Saturday, urged the people of Kerala to contribute to the CMDRF and shared the account number where the money has to be transferred.

“As the state of Kerala is in a situation where it is experiencing unprecedent monsoon, please donate generously to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF),” said Dulquer in his Facebook post.

Actor Mohanlal has also reportedly announced that he will be donating Rs 25 lakh to the flood victims and that he will directly hand over the amount to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, on Tuesday.

Earlier, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) on August 9 had donated an amount of Rs 10 lakh to the Relief Fund.

Many members of the Malayalam film industry have been highly vocal on social media, urging people of the state to come forward and donate to the CMDRF.

It’s not just Malayalam artistes, but support for flood relief activities has been coming from across the border as well. Tamil actors Surya and Karthi donated Rs 25 lakh each to the CMDRF on Saturday while Kamal Haasan donated Rs 25 lakh on Sunday.
