EarthFood is a homegrown company and product of VTP RAIRAH Foods Pvt Ltd that has taken the concept of ‘Farm to Fork’ and made it into reality. They are a startup that is changing the concept of farming and taking the world into a residue-free environment.

EarthFood produces its own vegetables that are entirely residue free. The company has 370 acres of land near Pune where the farming is done.

The startup has received funding from Pune-based Rairah Corporation. Following this, Siddharth Khinvasara from Rairah Corporation has also come on board EarthFood as a Co-founder.

In an interaction with TNM, Nilesh Palresha, Co-founder EarthFood, underlined the concept behind setting up the company, operational challenges, future plans among other things.

Reason behind setting up the company

I have always been a keen observer and often noted the massive increase in the amount of fertilizers and pesticides being used on agricultural produce, which in turn would be consumed by the masses leading to some serious health disasters. Keeping this in mind, we realised that there needs to be an alternate solution to this problem, which ultimately gave birth to EarthFood.

We produce our own exotic and Indian vegetables that are free of residue. The produce is much healthier and cuts the risk of obesity, blood pressure related issues or any type of allergies that arise from vegetable residue. We at EarthFood believe that food should be pure, fresh, nutrient-rich and healthy. Hence at EarthFood, the produce is grown naturally and in an eco-friendly way. We use a healthy mix of traditional methods and innovation to keep pollution and wastage to a minimum. Additionally, we also follow Global GAP practices that are supposed to be best known for agriculture.

Farmed in a natural way, EarthFood, a product of VTP RairahFoodsPvt. Ltd., offers produce reaching the end-user in the most hygienic, healthy way possible. EarthFood offers a wide range of fruits and vegetables that are grown in the purest form without using harmful chemical fertilizers or pesticides and they are sold to the customers without adding preservatives and synthetic food enhancers. The produce is residue free. EarthFood’s philosophy is ‘Farm to Fork’ in the most natural way known to man. The company offers fresh produce including both exotic and Indian vegetables like iceberg, broccoli, Pak choy, zucchini, French beans, cluster beans, lady finger, green chilly etc.

What are the operational challenges for EarthFood?

For an industry like agriculture, it is imperative to understand that it has a tremendous impact on the lives of individuals. Like any other sector, agriculture too has its own set of critical challenges.

Residue-free farming being a fairly new concept in the field of agriculture, it was important to make people believe in the concept of our vegetables, as they fall between organic and normal.

Other challenges include: Making people choose to buy branded vegetables over normal; initial manpower for operations; supply channel bottleneck; lack of sufficient power, and water scarcity due to uncertain climate.

Technologies used in the farm

We believe food should be pure, fresh, nutrient rich and healthy. EarthFood produce is grown naturally in an eco-friendly way. We use a healthy mix of both traditional and modern methods which allows minimum wastage and pollution. We practice rainwater harvesting to maximise the use of the water. Most importantly, we ensure that the produce / products have minimal human touch to avoid adulteration.

We use bio-fertilizers and organic pesticides that are human as well as environment-friendly. We follow Global GAP practices to conduct our Farm and Pack-House operations. We are in the process of setting up a hydroponics unit which will allow us to conduct soil-less farming. A healthy lifestyle, after all, begins with healthy eating. That’s precisely why we have partnered with Mother Nature.

In which cities are the products of EarthFood available?

EarthFood products are currently available at all major retail stores in Pune, Mumbai, Kolhapur and Bengaluru.

Future plans of the company

EarthFood as a brand is committed to offer products in the residue-free segment that would be in the interest of consumers’ health. In the years to come, EarthFood aims to become the most preferred brand for consumers, in supplying certified residue-free fruits, vegetables, spices and processed food products, along with good quality and consistent supply.

With our success in fresh vegetables, we are in the process of producing mixed variants of fruits following the same procedure and are also entering into the segment of non-perishable products like Turmeric powder, Jaggery Powder, A2 Bilona Ghee, Himalayan Pink Salt & Forest Honey and residue-free dehydrated spices.
