Is there some trouble with the yet to be launched foldable smartphone from Samsung, the South Korean giant? There are reports of the display getting damaged within just a day or two of use. Interestingly, these complaints have come from some reviewers who were issued with sample pieces of Samsung Galaxy Fold to review the phone ahead of its launch next week. The company, however, says it is going ahead with the release of the phone in the market, as planned, from April 26.

The initial reaction from Samsung has been that it will personally inspect the phone to know the defect and respond suitably. But one issue that has been pointed out is that the company had warned that there is a protective layer on top of the display and that should not be removed. The complainant in question might have removed that plastic film that prevents the display from getting cracked.

Meanwhile, despite the high price of close to $2000 (roughly Rs 1.4 lakh), Samsung says it has received more bookings for the Samsung Galaxy Fold than it had planned for and is closing the bookings. But it is expected that they will go ahead and manufacture the 1 million pieces that is expected to be sold worldwide. It may be noted that the company ends up selling 300 million phones annually.

Despite these reports of the display getting damaged, the overall expectation among smartphone users about this foldable smartphone is pretty high. It is seen as a turning point in the smartphone technology almost equalling the first iPhone in 2007. A normal sized phone that can be unfolded to reveal a 7.3-inch display without any distortion will definitely keep the users thrilled and those who can afford, may want to flaunt it as a status symbol in the coming days.

This, however, comes after Samsung faced a major issue with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7s catching fire. That issue damaged Samsung’s reputation greatly, but the company has moved forward and is seen to be ahead of competition in many geographies. It remains to be seen how this present issue of the display in the first foldable phone from its stable is handled in the coming days. If complaints have come from just a few samples distributed, what will be the scenario when thousands who have paid $1980 start using the phone.
