The Madras High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to Additional Director General of Police of Central Investigation Department on the problem of increasing pornography and prostitution.

This notice was sent after a petition was filed by social worker Y Akbar Ahmed of Royapettah. The bench has asked the ADGP to file a counter affidavit on the case next hearing on June 21, according to The New Indian Express.

Akbar alleged that he had brought this issue to the notice of ADGP office in April last year but no action was taken against it. The issues of cyber pornography and prostitution comes under the crime branch of Central Investigation Department which is in-charge of Anti Vice Squad, headed by ADGP.

In his petition, Ahmed said that pornography is a distraction and has an extremely bad effect on the youth as well as the adults leading to various types of social and medical problems as well as perpetration of crime.

According to the law, watching pornography is a crime, attracting severe punishment for producers and distributors of the content.  The petition also asked action against inter-state flesh trade in Chennai.
