Suspended Additional Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar was interrogated for 9 hours on Sunday by the a team from the Central Investigation Department (CID) at the Carlton House in Bengaluru. A notice was issued to Kumar in the morning to appear before the CID Headquarters at 11 am. He was suspended on Saturday evening after the Chief Minister was apprised of the findings in the illegal lottery scam. An interim report was submitted by the CID earlier. Pari Rajan, who is believed to be the “kingpin” in this case, revealed the names of several police officials during his interrogation by the CID. Before heading to the headquarters, Kumar visited the office of Police Commissioner M N Reddi, to hand over his charge along with his wireless and police phone, according to a report in the Bangalore Mirror. Kumar was reportedly treated as a “witness” in the interrogation and only after analysing his responses would the authorities decide whether he was an “accused”. Here are some of the questions asked by the CID according to media reports: 1.       Who introduced him to Rajan? 2.       Why wasn’t he aware of Rajan’s illegal activities despite known him for a few years? 3.       Regarding allegations of him interfering with the arrest of Rajan and trying to protect the latter. 4.       Why did he call the sub-inspector who arrested Rajan when he wasn't his supervising officer? 5.       On the nature of the relationship between Rajan, him and their two other common acquaintances. 6.       On the nature of transactions (monetary or otherwise) between the two and why they existed if Rajan was just a “well-wisher”? 7.       Why were 151 calls exchanged in the recent past when Rajan was just an “acquaintance”? 8.       On the personal visits to Rajan including staying at the latter’s guest house en route to Tirupati? 9.       Why was he present at parties hosted by Rajan in the guest house? 10.     Why was a watch gifted to him by Rajan? According to reports, Kumar answered every question in length and appeared calm throughout the interrogation. He may be summoned for questioning even on Monday. The CID may summon for questioning or issue notices to more serving police officials and retired IPS officer in the following days. Another report said suspended SP (Lottery Squad) Dharanesh  would also be questioned by the CID officials. JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy told reporters that he along with his party legislators would soon meet Governor Vajubhai Vala urging to initiate action against the State government for failing to prevent the lottery racket. He blamed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister K J George for the same and said the chief minister should resign “owning moral responsibility”, said a report in Deccan Herald.
